Inspector Steve Ross

Inspector Steve Ross leads a team of 144 officers and 6 civilian employees in this rapidly growing area bordering the City of Toronto. With a combined population of 195,545 in 2008, the City of Pickering and the Town of Ajax generated 28.7 per cent of all Calls for Service handled by the Durham Regional Police in 2007.

Although both municipalities are largely urban in nature, significant portions of the northern part of Ajax and Pickering are still rural, providing officers with a diverse and challenging policing environment. The Region’s second largest employer, Ontario Power Generation, is located in Pickering and boasts 6,000 full time employees.

One of the Region's two casinos is the Ajax Downs, which is located in Ajax and has an estimated daily attendance of 3,500 people. West Division is also home to the Region’s only Collision Reporting Center.

Keeping with the 2008 Durham Regional Police Services' Strategic Priorities, West Division has set local strategic priorities, which include reducing violent crime, such as street level robberies, providing extra police patrols in parks and greenbelt areas in order to reduce unruly behaviour in those areas and working to improve road safety.
