Collision Reporting Centre
The Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) and Accident Support Services Ltd. are pleased to announce the opening of a centralized Collision Reporting Centre (CRC) that will help motorists deal with collisions in a more convenient and safer manner.

The CRC officially opened on Monday November 16th, 2009 at 650 Rossland Road East in a renovated building that used to house the Whitby Community Police Office, across the road from Durham Region Headquarters in Whitby.

Accident Support Services Ltd. has been operating a successful CRC in partnership with the DRPS servicing the Pickering/Ajax community for several years. The success of this original location has prompted an expansion to provide enhanced service to the citizens of Durham Region. This centralized location makes the reporting of non-injury collisions safe, easy and more convenient for motorists. It also frees up valuable time for police to attend higher priority calls. The new CRC has ample free parking, and will replace the Pickering location, which will be closing.

Rather than police attending the scene of non-injury collisions, citizens will exchange information, and should report property damage-only collisions by towing or driving their vehicles to the CRC as soon as possible. Police will continue to attend collisions involving injury or death, alcohol, criminal activity (such as impaired driving), vehicles transporting dangerous goods or police vehicles. Such collisions occurring on Highways #401, #407, and Highway #7/12 except Highway #12 (Brock Street) south of Winchester Road should be reported to the Whitby Detachment of the O.P.P.

The Durham Regional CRC will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on weekends and holidays. Upon the citizen’s arrival at the centre, a trained professional staff member will help them complete the collision report, direct them to police personnel as needed, photograph the damage to the vehicle, and offer them the opportunity to contact their family, broker or insurance company directly - a one stop service opportunity.

Accident Support Services is under contract with the Barrie, London, Peterborough, North Bay, Owen Sound, Brantford, Belleville, Hamilton, Cornwall, Timmins, Sudbury, Sault Ste. Marie, Thunder Bay and Toronto Police Services, as well as with the Ontario Provincial Police. In addition, the Kenora, LaSalle, Port Hope, Perth, Midland, Kawartha Lakes, Deep River, South Simcoe, Stirling-Rawdon, and the Wingham Police Services utilize our Collision Reporting & Occurrence Management System (CROMS) as their electronic collision records management database.

Their goal is to facilitate an active partnership between the police and insurers in post-accident care by providing knowledgeable advice and assistance to accident victims with empathy, integrity and availability. This results in increased convenience for the public as well as greater road safety. Our supporting insurers fund the program; therefore, there is no cost to the police or the public for these additional services.
