Whitby Regional Councillor Joe Drumm joined the Police Services Board in January 2004 and brought with him a lifetime of community service experience and enthusiasm.
The 74-year-old was born in Ireland and moved to Canada in 1953 when his family settled in Toronto. It was three years later that his family moved to Whitby, Ontario where Joe became a fixture in municipal politics. From 1956 until his retirement in 1992, he worked in the shipping/stores departments of Dowty Equipment in Ajax.
Politics was in his blood from a very early age as his father served for many years as a County Councilllor in the Town of Tullamore (Offaly County in Ireland). Joe continued the family tradition in the “New World” when he was first elected a Ward Councillor in Whitby in 1976. He was elected a Regional Councillor for the first time in 1988.
He currently serves as the Chair of Whitby’s Planning Committee and is currently sitting as Council representative on the Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority (CLOCA). As part of his Region of Durham responsibilities, Joe serves on the Planning Committee and the Accessibility Committee.
