Aisha Malik was born in Lahore, Pakistan and immigrated to Canada with her parents in 1999. In 2004, she graduated from the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario with an Honours Bachelor of Science in Human Ecology, Food and Nutrition. Currently, she is managing the Durham’s Child Nutrition Project (DCNP) administered by the Community Development Council Durham (CDCD). The mission of the DCNP is to ensure that every child in Durham Region attends school well nourished and ready to learn.
Aisha is a strong advocate for improving the community through volunteerism and has devoted her time to several community organizations. She represents DCNP on the Food Wellness Committee of Durham, and is involved in the development of the Food Charter for Durham Region. As a member of Clarington Lion’s Club Diabetes Awareness Committee, she is working towards raising the awareness of diabetes in school-aged children. While she was in London, Ontario, Aisha volunteered at the Mount Hope Long Term Care Facility as a feeding aide for elderly patients suffering from dysphasia, and conducted a survey to improve the quality of life and service for the residents. Aisha has also volunteered at the St. Thomas Hospital and the Kidney Foundation of Canada. More recently, Aisha has been involved as a fund-raiser for the victims of the 2004 South Asian Tsunami and South Asian Earthquake in 2005. Aisha has recently been appointed as a member of the Durham Regional Police Services Board for a three-year term and is keenly looking forward to her new responsibilities.
Aisha moved to Ajax in June 2004 after marrying Shehab “Sunny” Mustafa. Sunny is pursuing a career in nuclear engineering with Ontario Power Generation and shares Aisha’s passions of improving the community by volunteering on numerous Board of Directors and community service organizations.
