Police Week is Officially Underway
16-May-2012 07:56 PSTBack | Print Article

Police Week is officially underway, promoting this year’s theme of “Leading the Way to a Safer Tomorrow”, with DRP joining the OPP and RCMP at the ribbon-cutting ceremony on May 15.

Dedicated to increasing public awareness and crime prevention, Police Week has become an annual event across Ontario. Members and volunteers from the DRPS will be at the Oshawa Centre to answer all your questions until Thurs. May 17.

“Police Week allows us an excellent opportunity to partner with the OPP and RCMP, not only to demonstrate what we do on a daily basis, but to provide the public with the knowledge to protect themselves from becoming victims of crime,” said Deputy Chief Paul Martin. “Police, businesses, community partners and citizens need to work together to promote safer communities for everyone.”

Information about counterfeit money and detection, senior safety and elder abuse, Neighborhood Watch, the harms of drug use, crime prevention and much more are available for citizens.

Members of the community are invited to come out and meet with our officers and volunteers for a great learning experience and take-home pamphlets. The public also gets a chance at an up-close look at police vehicles and motorcycles from various units.

We hope to see you there.
