2026 IMPACT Youth Forum

On Saturday, January 17th, 2026, the Durham Regional Police Services’ Youth in Policing Initiative hosted its 2026 IMPACT Youth Forum.

Every year, the IMPACT Youth Forum empowers young people to create lasting, positive changes within their communities through hands-on skill-building workshops that encourage leadership, creativity, collaboration, and action rooted in the IMPACT principles (Inspire, Motivate, Persevere, Act, Create, and Transcend).

This year, we welcomed over 200 attendees, including youth aged 14–24 from across Durham Region. We were also honoured to be joined by DRPS Chief Peter Moreira, along with DRPS officers and DRPS Auxiliary officers, all of whom helped create an engaging and memorable experience for everyone in attendance.

The day began with inspiring remarks from Chief Peter Moreira, along with opening remarks that introduced the Quote of the Day: “Never underestimate the IMPACT you can have on others.” This powerful message set the tone for the forum, reminding youth that leadership begins with everyday choices, whether that means acting with kindness, creating something new, or persevering through challenges. These ideas were brought to life throughout the day as participants explored the IMPACT workshops.

This year’s forum was especially meaningful as the Youth in Policing Initiative proudly celebrates its 20th anniversary. Since 2006, YIP has provided thousands of youth with meaningful employment opportunities, mentorship, and leadership development, helping them grow into confident leaders in their communities.

A special thank you to the IMPACT United Team and the YIP Leadership Team for their dedication, creativity, and hard work in bringing this event to life and creating an unforgettable experience for our youth.
