Ajax Man Charged with Mischief After Repeated 911 Calls
A male has been charged following repeated non‑emergency calls to 911.
On Sunday, March 8, 2026, at approximately 6:35 p.m., members of West Division responded to an assist ambulance call at a residence in the area of Harwood Avenue South and Station Street. Beginning at approximately 3:50 p.m., a male repeatedly contacted 911 for non‑emergency reasons. Officers and paramedics attended and checked on the male, who declined assistance. He was advised that continued misuse of 911 when no emergency existed could result in charges.
Shortly after officers left the male’s residence, he continued to contact 911 repeatedly. Between 3:50 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. the male called 911 approximately 24 times. Officers returned to the residence and the male was taken into custody without incident.
Devon Riley REAL, age 24 of Ajax is charged with: Mischief, and Harassment by Means of Repeated Telecommunications.
He was held for a bail hearing.
911 and emergency service phone numbers are meant for real emergencies. Every 911 call that is not a genuine emergency takes up valuable time and prompts a response or assessment by emergency call takers that could be devoted to actual emergencies where life saving measures are needed. Needlessly tying up emergency services limits the availability of public safety resources for community members who genuinely require the assistance of emergency personnel. Please only contact 911 or emergency service phone numbers if you are in need of assistance.
Anyone with cell phone, dash cam, surveillance footage or information about this incident is asked to contact D/Cst. Broome of the West Division Criminal Investigations Branch at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 2531.
Anonymous information can be sent to Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at www.durhamregionalcrimestoppers.ca and tipsters may be eligible for a cash reward.
