Deceased Male Located Outside Residence in Oshawa
Police are investigating Durham Region’s seventh homicide after a male was located deceased outside of a residence in Oshawa.
On Thursday, October 16, 2025, at approximately 4:20 p.m., members of Central East Division responded to an unknown trouble call in the area of Mcgrigor Street and Simcoe Street South. Officers arrived on scene and located a male with obvious signs of trauma. Life saving measures were performed, however, the male was pronounced deceased.
The victim has been identified as 80-year-old Ibrahim BALA of Oshawa.
The Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation and is urging anyone with information to come forward.
We are aware of the proximity of this incident to a nearby place of worship. As with all criminal investigations, our investigators are examining all potential motives. We remain in close contact with leaders from the Islamic Centre of Oshawa and the community to ensure the investigation is conducted with sensitivity, respect, and transparency. We understand this incident has had a significant impact on members of the Muslim community and the broader public. Our thoughts remain with the victim’s family, friends, and all those affected.
Residents can expect an increased police presence in the area as investigators continue to determine the circumstances of the homicide.
Anyone who was in the area or may have witnessed suspicious activity between 2:30 p.m. and 4:20 p.m., is urged to contact police. As well, anyone with cellphone, dash cam, or surveillance footage is asked to contact Det. Barrette of the Homicide Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5400.
