This week the R.I.D.E. team worked in partnership with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Durham, as well the Ontario Provincial Police Highway Safety Division, and DRPS auxiliary constables, stopping more than 1,500 drivers across the Region of Durham. We would like to thank all of the citizens who called police when they observed and suspected a driver of being impaired. Many of these calls led to charges and in impaired driver being taken off the road. This is a prime example of how it takes the entire community working together to improve the safety of our roadways. If you see something, say something. Impaired driving is an emergency, call 911 to report suspected impaired drivers.

A list of those charged can be found at www.drps.ca under R.I.D.E. Results.

Note: Under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act, anyone charged with an impaired driving criminal offence will have their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and their vehicle impounded automatically for seven days.
