Male Arrested After Assault and Fleeing from Police in Oshawa

A male is facing numerous charges after he assaulted and forcibly confined a victim before fleeing from police in Oshawa.

On Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at approximately 12:10 p.m., members of Central East Division responded to a disturbance call in the area of Wentworth Street West and Oxford Street. The suspect reportedly assaulted and forced the victim into a vehicle before fleeing the area. Officers located the suspect vehicle and initiated a traffic stop, however the vehicle fled from police, striking another vehicle. After a brief pursuit, officers made intentional contact with the suspect vehicle, successfully bringing it to a stop. The suspect was taken into custody.

The victim suffered minor injuries. The driver and passenger of the vehicle involved in the collision with the suspect vehicle suffered minor injuries.

The suspect was wanted on outstanding warrants at the time of his arrest.

Zachary Ryan GRILLS, age 32 from Oshawa is charged with: Assault x3, Dangerous Operation, Flight from Police, Theft of Motor Vehicle, Forcible Confinement x2, Obstruct Peace Officer, Possess Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000, Operate a Conveyance While Prohibited x2, Driving While Under Suspension, and Leave Scene of Accident.

He was held for a bail hearing.
