Male Arrested for Theft and Assault with a Weapon in Oshawa
A male is facing charges after stealing items from a business in the Oshawa Centre and threatening security with a knife.
On Monday, April 6, 2026, at approximately 11:10 a.m., members of Central East Division responded to an armed person call at the Shoppers Drug Mart located inside the Oshawa Centre at 419 King Street West. A male entered the store and concealed items in a personal bag before fleeing. When the suspect was confronted by security, he brandished a knife and made threats. Officers searched the area and located the suspect a short distance away from the mall, where he was taken into custody without incident.
At the time of his arrest, the accused was on a weapon prohibition condition.
Alexander Joseph CALLAGHAN, age 35 from Oshawa is charged with: Assault with a Weapon, Uttering Threats, Theft Under $5000, Possess Weapon for Offence, Possess Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000, and Breach Probation.
He was held for a bail hearing.
