Older Adults Police Academy - Applications now open
Are you aged 55+ and want to know what happens behind the scenes at DRPS?
Apply now for the Durham Regional Police Service Older Adults Police Academy, a week-long program designed to educate, engage, and empower individuals in our community.
The Durham Regional Police Service Older Adults Police Academy's goal is to create ambassadors for DRPS. Attendees are encouraged to share the knowledge they learn during the program about issues affecting seniors with others in their community.

The very first academy goes back to 2019 and it has been a great success ever since. Through the week-long program, attendees will gain a better understanding of the DRPS, the services we provide and the decisions we make, often in an emergency or crisis situation.

To be eligible you must be:
- 55 years of age or older
- Resident of Durham Region
- Must be able to attend all 5 days
- Successfully complete the application form, sign waivers and provide a background check
The academy includes demonstrations, presentations and participant interactions. Topics include:
- Personal, Home and Travel Safety
- Communications 911 Unit (Operational Training Centre Tour)
- K-9 and Tactical Support
- Fraud Awareness and Protection
- Power of Attorney and Last Will
- Forensic Identification Unit
- Electronic Crimes
- Use of Force
- Defense Tactics
- Body Worn Camera
