UPDATE #1 Suspect Arrested in Durham’s Ninth homicide

Police have arrested one male and are searching for a second male who are believed to be responsible for Durham’s ninth homicide.

On Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at approximately 4:15 a.m., members of Central East Division responded to a call in the area of Park Road South and John Street in Oshawa.  A male, identified as 44-year-old Jeremy RUSSELL, was located on the roadway suffering from stab wounds.  He was transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre in life-threatening condition where he later succumbed to his injuries.

On Tuesday, December 23, 2025, investigators located the first suspect responsible for the stabbing and took him into custody.  

A second suspect, identified as 44-year-old Michael WATERMAN, is wanted.  A photo of WATERMAN is attached and can be found at www.drps.ca.

The victim, the accused, and the wanted suspect are all known to each other.

Nicholas ROBBINS, age 33 from Oshawa is charged with: Second Degree Murder.

Michael WATERMAN, age 44 from Oshawa is wanted for: Second Degree Murder.

ROBBINS was held for bail hearing.

WATERMAN is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached.  If you see WATERMAN, please immediately contact 911.

Investigators are urging WATERMAN to contact counsel and turn himself into police. Anyone who is found to be assisting him to evade police is guilty of an offence under the Criminal Code of Canada and will be prosecuted to the full extent.
