Youth Arrested After Bear Spray Used at School in Oshawa

A male is facing charges after spraying another male with bear spray at a school in Oshawa.

On Thursday, February 26, 2026, at approximately 11:45 a.m., members of Central East Division responded to an assault call at Grove School located at 240 Simcoe Street South. Two male youth were involved in a physical altercation when one of the male’s sprayed the other with bear spray. Police arrived on scene a short time later and located both the suspect and victim. The suspect was taken into custody without incident. 

Both the suspect and victim were treated for minor injuries and contamination from the bear spray. 

Students and staff were evacuated from the school as a result of contamination from the bear spray.

A 17-year-old male from Whitby is charged with: Assault with a Weapon, and Administer Noxious Substance.

He was released on an Undertaking.
