Youth Threatens Ride Share Driver with Firearm While Fleeing Police in Whitby
A male is facing charges after pointing a firearm at an Uber driver while attempting to flee police in Whitby.
On Friday, March 6, 2026, at approximately 12:35 a.m., members of Central West Division initiated a traffic stop in the area of Brock Street and Chestnut Street. The subject vehicle slowed and continued at a low speed before finally coming to a full stop. A male opened the rear passenger door and fled the vehicle on foot. Officers engaged in a short foot pursuit before taking the suspect into custody.
The investigation determined the suspect had pointed a firearm at the driver, who was operating the vehicle for Uber, demanding the driver flee from police. A firearm was also located in the area. Several drugs and drug paraphernalia were located in the suspect’s possession.
The accused was on a firearm/weapons prohibition and an order of conditional supervision for several violent offences at the time of his arrest.
A 17-year-old male of Oshawa is charged with: Point Firearm, Possess Firearm – No Licence, Possession of Prohibited/Restricted Weapon, Occupy Motor Vehicle with Firearm, Possess Loaded Firearm, Possess Firearm While Prohibited, Disguise with Intent, Carry Concealed Weapon, Possess Weapon Dangerous, Utter Threats, Possess Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (cocaine), Possess Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (crack cocaine), and Fail to Comply with YCJA Sentence x3.
He was held for a bail hearing.
