DRPS does not respond to messages sent through social media.

The DRPS Media Office aims to be accurate and timely as possible when providing information to the public and the media.

Some information may not be immediately available – or may not be released at all – for reasons such as ensuring the safety of our police officers and special constables, complying with legislative requirements (including the Community Safety and Policing Act and the Youth Criminal Justice Act), protecting the privacy of victims, and preserving the integrity of ongoing investigations.

Access to DRPS press conferences and events are reserved for accredited media representatives only.

Registration may be required and/or identification may be requested upon entry.

DRPS reserves the right to restrict entry at any time.

DRPS will publish news releases and/or photographs after the event has concluded.

For long-form feature or documentary requests, please send an email to media@drps.ca outlining the details of the request including: topic, requested timelines for statements/interviews, form and date of publication, background and any other appropriate details.

DRPS will review all requests. Unfortunately, not all requests can be accommodated due to operational priorities and officer availability.

Student requests should outline the full scope of their request including: topic, requested timelines for statements/interviews, form and date of publication, background and any other appropriate details.

Please be precise about the context of the request and the specific information needed.

Be sure to take a close look at the DRPS website and the Community Safety Data Portal for information first.

The DRPS Community Safety Data Portal (CSDP) includes a wide range of datasets and statistics made available to the public through interactive maps and dashboards.

If the information you are looking for is not available on the CSDP, please contact DRPS Media Relations Office. Depending on the scope of your inquiry and any associated privacy or legal constraints, you may be asked to submit a Freedom of Information request.

Disclaimer:
Surveillance photos are a great tool in helping police identify persons of interest in investigations. DRPS also depends on information from our community members to assist in solving these crimes. If a surveillance photo is released, the individuals depicted in these images are persons of interest to police and may or may not be responsible for the offence described. Please contact the investigator listed in the posting or Crime Stoppers at https://durhamregionalcrimestoppers.ca/ or 1-800-222-TIPS if you have any information.
