Thefts from Vehicles

Thefts from vehicles are an issue across the region.

While there’s no guaranteed way to prevent these thefts, there are steps you can take to help discourage thieves from targeting your vehicle:

Key advice:
  • Always roll up your windows and lock your doors when leaving your vehicle.
  • Never leave valuables in your vehicle — especially not in plain sight. Always take them inside with you.
  • Install working security cameras and motion-activated lighting where you park, when possible.
  • Start the 9 p.m. Routine — every night at 9 p.m., double-check that your vehicle is locked and your exterior lights are on.
  • Report any suspicious activity, even if no theft occurred. These incidents (when not in progress) can be reported online at: drps.ca/online-reporting-and-registries/report-a-crime
