In your first year of employment with DRPS, you earn 15 vacation days (120 hours), pro-rated based on your hire date. We also recognize your years of service, which may increase your vacation entitlement.

Experienced officers are assigned to a district and platoon based on the needs of the service. We will attempt to accommodate an applicant's request for a particular posting; but there is no guarantee that the request can be met. New members should be prepared to work from any police district in Durham Region.

Experienced hires are credited with previous police experience when determining their starting classification at Durham Regional Police Service. We review each experienced officer’s classification on a case-by-case basis. If you have worked for more than one agency, we combine all employment experience.

All DRPS members must contribute to the OMERS pension plan. If you have contributed to another pension plan, contact OMERS to determine if your plan is transferable.
