DRPS Increases Patrols for Jewish High Holidays

The Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) will increase police patrols at Jewish places of worship and community gathering locations across Durham Region during the upcoming Jewish High Holidays.

Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, and Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, are among the holiest days in the Jewish faith. During these observances, many members of the Jewish community will gather for religious services, celebrations, and community events at synagogues and community centres throughout the region.

To help ensure the safety and well-being of all community members, uniform officers will conduct enhanced patrols and maintain a visible presence at identified locations throughout the holiday period. These proactive measures are intended to support public safety, provide reassurance to worshippers and visitors, and help ensure that individuals can observe these important occasions without concern.

The increased patrols are precautionary in nature and reflect DRPS's ongoing commitment to community safety, crime prevention, and support for faith-based communities across Durham Region. We recognize the significance of these religious observances and want members of the Jewish community to know that their safety remains a priority. Officers will continue working closely with community partners and maintaining an enhanced presence throughout the holiday period.
