Help Solve a Crime Leads to Arrest in Counterfeit Currency Investigation

A female is facing charges after assistance from a Help Solve a Crime led to her arrest.

On Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at approximately 2:00 p.m., a female entered the HomeSense located at 125 Harwood Avenue North in Ajax, and purchased items using fraudulent currency. A short time later the female suspect attended the HomeSense located at 1355 Kingston Road in Pickering, where she returned the fraudulently purchased items for legitimate currency.

On Friday, July 3, 2026, the suspect was identified with assistance from a Help Solve a Crime post, and taken into custody in Oshawa.

Tanase Stela HARET, age 50 from Pickering is charged with: Fraud Under $5000, and Utter Counterfeit Currency.

She was released on an Undertaking.
