Male Arrested After Making Threats with Knife in Oshawa
A male is facing charges after breaking into a vehicle and threatening the vehicle’s owner in Oshawa.
On Sunday, July 19, 2026, at approximately 6:15 p.m., members of Central East Division responded to an armed person call in the area of Bruce Street and Court Street. The victim returned to his parked vehicle and found a male suspect inside. The victim confronted the suspect, who then threatened the victim with a knife before fleeing the area.
Officers arrived in the area a short time later and observed the suspect fleeing. Following a brief foot pursuit, the suspect made threats toward officers with the knife and a hammer. Officers deployed a Conducted Energy Weapon and were able to safely take the suspect into custody.
The victim did not suffer any physical injuries.
Jonathan Joseph CYR, age 18 of No Fixed Address is charged with: Assault with a Weapon, Possess Weapon Dangerous, Possess Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000, Possess Break-in Instrument, Mischief Under $5000, Obstruct Peace Officer, and Theft Under $5000.
He was held for a bail hearing.
