Male Arrested Following Sexual Assault Investigation in Oshawa

A male is facing several charges following a sexual assault investigation in Oshawa.

In 2025, the victim contacted a male and female with several children, via a Facebook Au Pair Group, to come to Canada to work informally as an au pair. 

In December 2025, the victim arrived in Canada, and resided with the suspect and his spouse at their home, in exchange for providing child care. 

On Friday, December 12, 2025, the suspect gave the victim ice cream. Soon after consuming the ice cream the victim reported feeling incoherent and eventually going unconscious, with no recollection of the night. The victim sought medical attention and it was later confirmed that a noxious drug was present in her system.

In early 2026, a search warrant was executed at the suspect’s residence in Oshawa. Several electronic devices as well as the same drug used in the offence were located and seized. 

Investigators analyzed these devices and found further evidence to support the investigation. Additionally, evidence of child sexual abuse and exploitation materials were found.

On Wednesday, June 10, 2026, investigators with the Special Victims Unit took the suspect into custody without incident.

Derek Stephen BELLAMY, age 38, from Oshawa is charged with: Sexual Assault, Administer Noxious Substance, Voyeurism x5, Possess Recording Obtained by Voyeurism x5, Possess child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation Material, Access Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation Material.

He was held for a bail hearing.
