UPDATE #1 Driver Charged in Single Vehicle Collision That Injured Four in Whitby

The driver responsible for a single vehicle collision in Whitby that injured all occupants of the vehicle in is now facing several charges.

On Thursday, May 28, 2026, at approximately 5:30 a.m., members of Central West Division responded to a single vehicle collision near Myrtle Road West and Duffs Road. A Toyota RAV4 was travelling eastbound on Myrtle Road when it lost control and went off the roadway, ejecting at least two occupants from the vehicle. 

An 18-year-old male and a 19-year-old male were transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre with serious injuries. A 16-year-old female was airlifted to a Toronto-area trauma centre with serious injuries. A 14-year-old male suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local-area hospital.

Members of the DRPS Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene to conduct an investigation. The roads in the area were closed for several hours while evidence was collected.

On Thursday, August 13, 2026, members of the Collision Investigation Unit concluded their investigation and arrested the driver of the Toyota without incident.

Alexander BURGI, age 18 from Whitby is charged with: Dangerous Operation - Cause Bodily Harm x2, Impaired Operation - Cause Bodily Harm x2, Impaired Operation – Exceed, Take Vehicle Without Consent, Stunt Driving, Novice Driver – Blood Alcohol Above Zero, G1 Licence – Not Accompanied by Qualified Driver.

He was held for a bail hearing.
