UPDATE #1 - Male Wanted After Striking Officers While Fleeing Police

Police have identified and are seeking a male suspect after officers were struck by a Tesla during an incident in Oshawa.

On Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at approximately 1:05 a.m., members of Central East Division on proactive patrol observed an Acura sedan travelling on Simcoe Street North with no lights at a high rate of speed. Officers initiated a traffic stop; however, the vehicle fled the area, failing to stop for police. Officers searched the area and located the vehicle parked unoccupied in a residential driveway. After a brief search of the neighbourhood, the driver was located hiding in a backyard and taken into custody.

A search of the vehicle located a replica firearm, and drugs. At the time of his arrest, the suspect was on conditions not to have care or control of a motor vehicle and remain in his residence at night.

As officers continued their investigation, a Tesla SUV entered the area at a high rate of speed. Officers attempted to speak with the driver as the Tesla came to a stop. While speaking with the driver, the vehicle attempted to reverse, striking two officers, before fleeing the area.

One officer was transported to a local-area hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The second officer attended a local-area hospital with minor injuries.

Investigators have identified the male driving the Tesla and are looking for information on his whereabouts.  

Yaseen WAGGAN, age 23 from Ajax is wanted for: Flight from Peace Officer, Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance, Assault Cause Bodily Harm, Failing to Comply with Release Orderx2, Fail to Identify Self to Officer, and Fail to Remain.
