UPDATE #1 Suspect Arrested in Durham Region’s Third Homicide of 2026

A 16-year-old male has been arrested and charged in Durham Region’s third homicide of 2026.

On Saturday, May 9, 2026, at approximately 8:10 p.m., members from Central West Division responded to an armed person call in the area of Simcoe Street North and Winchester Road East. Officers arrived on scene and located a 23-year-old male with injuries. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
 
On Monday, May 11, 2026, the suspect surrendered himself to DRPS Homicide investigators in Oshawa, and was taken into custody without incident.

This is believed to be an isolated incident.

A 16-year-old male from Brampton is charged with: Second Degree Murder.

He was held for a bail hearing.

Police Looking for Information Following Homicide in Oshawa

A 23-year-old male from Oshawa has died in Durham Region’s third homicide of 2026.
 
On Saturday, May 9, 2026, at approximately 8:10 p.m., members from Central West Division responded to an armed person call in the area of Simcoe Street North and Winchester Road East. Officers arrived on scene and located a 23-year-old male with injuries. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
 
Two groups of males engaged in a physical altercation outside of the Tim Horton’s located at 2700 Simcoe Street North. During that altercation, the victim suffered fatal injuries. The suspect and several other males fled on foot south and east of the Tim Horton’s.
