Male Arrested for Identity Fraud in Whitby
A male is facing charges after attempting to fraudulently open a bank account in Whitby.
On Thursday, June 4, 2026, at approximately 4:00 p.m., members of Central West Division responded to a fraud call at the CIBC located at 308 Taunton Road East. Bank staff contacted police after a male attended their location and attempted to open an account using fraudulent identification documents. Officers arrived on scene and took the suspect into custody without incident. A search of the suspect produced multiple banking cards not in his name.
At the time of his arrest, the accused was wanted by several other police services for similar offences. The accused was also already bound by conditions not to possess any banking documents or cards unless in his name.
Rodrigo MARTINEZ-PALACIOS, age 27 from Toronto is charged with: Fraud Under $5000, Possess Identity Document of Another x3, Utter Forged Document, Breach Probation x2, and Fail to Comply with Release Order.
He was held for a bail hearing.
