The Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) is proud to launch the 22nd annual Police Chief for a Day Contest—a unique opportunity for Grade 5 students to step into the shoes of Chief Peter Moreira and lead the Service for a day.
We’re looking for bright, passionate students who have ideas on how to make our communities safer and stronger. This is your chance to be heard and make a difference!
Contest Details:
Who Can Enter:
Students entering Grade 5 in September 2025 at a school in Durham Region.
Essay Topic:
“What would you do if you were Police Chief for a day?”
Length:
Maximum 500 words
Submission Deadline: Wednesday, September 17, 2024
What’s at Stake:
Grand Prize – Be the Chief for a Day!
The winning student will:
- Be sworn in as DRPS Chief for a Day on Tuesday, October 28, 2025
- Receive a full DRPS uniform
- Visit various police units and meet members across the Service
- Attend the 22nd annual Police Appreciation Dinner and Awards Night (PADAN) as a guest of honour on October 30, 2025
- Participate in key DRPS events throughout the year, including the Food & Toy Drive, Police Week, and more
