DRPS Is Now Hiring

Durham Regional Police is actively recruiting for new recruit Constables and experienced officers.

Sworn Member Applicant Information

You must meet the following criteria before applying to be a recruit Constable:

  • Valid OACP Certificate of Results through ATS or TNT. See www.OACPcertificate.ca for further information.
  • Canadian citizen or Permanent resident of Canada
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Physically and mentally able to perform the duties of the position
  • Successfully completed secondary school or approved equivalent to the Ontario education system
  • Good moral character
  • No criminal convictions where a pardon has not been granted
  • Valid Ontario driver's licence (class G) with no more than six demerit points
  • Vision standards as per the OACP
  • Hearing standards as per the OACP
  • Current Standard First Aid certificate and CPR certificate (Basic Rescuer Level C)

The hiring process consists of seven steps:

  • Paperwork: selected applicants will be invited to participate in a paperwork session to complete the necessary documentation including an application, pre-background questionnaire and personal history form.
  • Blended Interview: applicants will be required to have knowledge of the DRPS and the Regional Municipality of Durham. The blended interview will assess the applicant's skills and abilities though behavioral, situational and knowledge based interview questions. Applicants should be prepared to articulate their experiences relating to the essential competencies required for a police constable (analytical thinking, self-confidence, communication, flexibility, diversity, self-control, relationship building and achievement orientation).

  • Physical Testing:  applicants will be required to successfully complete the Police PREP Shuttle Run by achieving a level 7.
  • Pre-Background Interview: thorough review of the applicant's file and confirmation of employment records and educational transcripts.

  • Psychological Assessment: applicants are required to complete the MMPI-2, 16PF, Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale assessment and participate in an interview with a psychiatrist.

  • Background: applicants will be required to complete a thorough background investigation.

  • Medical Assessment: applicants will be required to successfully complete the medical assessment.

Experienced officers must meet the following basic requirements:

  • Valid (Class G) driver's license
  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent
  • Canadian Citizen or permanent resident of Canada
  • Current (within the last 12 months) Ontario Police Fitness Award (Fitness Pin) OR Physical Readiness Evaluation for Police (PREP) OR RCMP-PARE certification
  • Successful completion of recruit training at The Ontario Police College (OPC) OR RCMP Academy - Depot Division (officers policing outside of the province of Ontario will be required to complete an OPC exemption exam facilitated by OPC)
  • Current Standard First Aid certificate and CPR certificate (Basic Rescuer Level C)
  • One year policing experience with a recognized Police Service

Employment information sessions are open to the public and are intended for anyone interested in joining DRPS as recruit  constable.
