DRPS Launches Bold New Recruitment Campaign

DRPS implements digital-first campaign to attract highly-skilled candidates
In response to one of the most competitive recruitment landscapes in decades, the Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) is launching a dynamic new campaign aimed at inspiring those ready to make a difference. Officially launching today, the campaign carries a clear and compelling message: “Embrace the Challenge. Make an Impact.”
With Durham Region’s population projected to grow by 40 per cent by 2046—and reaching 1.3 million residents by 2051—the need for proactive, community-focused policing has never been more urgent. Like many police services across Canada, DRPS is facing increased retirements, shifting public perceptions, and a shrinking recruitment pool.
“There’s no question that policing is a challenging profession—it demands integrity, resilience, and a genuine commitment to service,” says DRPS Chief Peter Moreira. “This campaign is about reaching people who want more than a job. It’s about finding those who are called to serve and giving them a meaningful career built on purpose and impact.”
Running from July through September 2025, the campaign will feature display ads, digital content, and targeted messaging across social media platforms. Designed with a digital-first approach, every element of the campaign meets potential recruits where they are—on their phones, in their feeds—encouraging them to explore not just a job, but a calling.
All content will drive candidates to a central recruitment website, www. joindrps.ca where they’ll find more information about why DRPS is a strong choice, including its commitment to community, employee wellness, inclusion, and professional development.
While DRPS’s existing recruitment methods have been effective, the Service has expanded its approach to address the critical recruitment need now and the anticipated required hiring in the coming years as DRPS continues to respond to evolving service demands.
“We are seeing rapid growth in our region, which brings both opportunities and challenges,” says Durham Regional Police Service Board Chair Shaun Collier. “We need to ensure we have the strength and diversity in our service to meet those evolving needs. We’re not just offering a uniform—we’re offering the chance to help shape and safeguard the region’s future.”
A career with DRPS offers more than service; it offers the opportunity to make a lasting impact in one of Ontario’s most vibrant and welcoming regions. For those seeking purpose, balance, and the chance to truly make a difference, Durham is ready to welcome you.
