DRPS Welcomes 13 New Officers

On Tuesday, May 20, the Durham Regional Police Service proudly welcomed 13 new recruits at a graduation ceremony held in Ajax.

The event was a meaningful celebration, featuring performances by the DRPS Pipes and Drums and the DRPS Choir. Family members and friends gathered to show their support as the new recruits marked this important milestone.

Deputy Chief Chris Kirkpatrick formally welcomed the graduating class and presented each officer with their badge. In his remarks, he reminded the recruits: “Policing is not just a profession—it’s a calling. It requires courage, compassion, and a steadfast commitment to the highest ethical standards.”

The recruits stood together to recite their Declaration of Membership, affirming their dedication to serving the community with integrity and respect.

Constable Kevin Schoch, selected as class valedictorian, delivered heartfelt thanks on behalf of the class—acknowledging the critical role of family support throughout their training journey.

Constable Benjamin Kerr was honoured with the Allan D. Christiansen Memorial Award, as voted by his peers. This award recognizes outstanding leadership, a positive outlook, commitment to personal fitness, and dedication to volunteerism—hallmarks of Constable Kerr’s contributions.

The newly sworn officers will now begin their next phase of training with coach officers, serving across various platoons throughout Durham Region over the coming months.

We extend our congratulations and a warm welcome to our newest members of DRPS!
