DRPS Welcomes New K9 Team

DRPS is thrilled to welcome a new team to our K9 Unit. The DRPS K9 Unit is pleased to announce that Constable Marissa Galipeau and Police Service Dog (PSD) Koa have completed their basic patrol certification and are ready to report for duty.

PSD Koa is a 2-year-old German Shepherd / Belgian Malinois mix who was born in Spain. The team spent 14 weeks in intensive training, certifying in numerous disciplines including tracking, building searches, evidence recovery. and obedience.

Koa is a determined and focused dog whose heart is as big as they come. No matter the challenge, Koa pushes forward with intensity and resilience. Interestingly, Koa lived in Spain, Florida, and Alabama before moving to Durham Region. On his days off, Koa loves playing fetch and trail running with his handler, Marissa. His absolute favourite toy is his pillow on a rope.

Cst. Galipeau and Koa will be patrolling Durham Region as members of A platoon.
