Male Arrested for Possession of a Firearm After Disturbance in Whitby
A male is facing a number of firearm charges after a disturbance in Whitby.
On Friday, August 1, 2025, at approximately 1:20 p.m., members of Central West Division responded to a disturbance call in the area of Dundas Street East and Garden Street in Whitby. A male travelling on an E-scooter heading Westbound on Dundas Street collided with another male who was riding a bicycle on a sidewalk. A verbal argument then ensued between both males.
Once officers arrived on scene, and were advised by bystanders that they had observed one of the males walk away prior to police arrival and discard his backpack. Officers located the abandoned backpack and a firearm was found inside.
The male was located and arrested without incident.
Jhavane HANSON, age 18 from Whitby is charged with numerous offences including: Possession of a Restricted / Prohibited Firearm Knowingly Not Holding a License; Possess Loaded Restricted or Prohibited Firearm; Possess Contrary to Order x2
He was held for a bail hearing.
