Suspicious Death Ruled a Homicide in Pickering

The DRPS Homicide Unit is investigating the death of a 47-year-old male in Pickering. This is Durham Region’s first homicide of 2025.

On Wednesday, April 30, 2025, members from West Division responded to a check on well-being call in the area of Fairport Road and Third Concession Road. Upon arrival, officers located a deceased male in a vehicle. The scene was secured and the Coroner’s Office was notified and attended the scene.

A post-mortem examination has determined that the male's death is the result of a homicide.

The victim has been identified as 47-year-old Joshua IBBITSON from Markham.

The Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation and is urging anyone with information to come forward.

Anyone who was in the area or may have witnessed suspicious activity between the evening of April 29, 2025 and the morning of April 30, 2025 is urged to contact police. If you have any information about this incident, please contact Det. Graham of the Homicide Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5418.
