Drugs and Firearm Located in Vehicle After Police Pursuit

On Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at approximately 8:50 p.m., a member of the Traffic Services Regional R.I.D.E. team observed a vehicle travelling at an extremely high rate of speed in excess of 150 km/h, on the Westbound 401 Highway near Simcoe Street in Oshawa.  The officer caught up to the vehicle at the Stevenson Road exit and initiated a traffic stop.  The suspect vehicle failed to stop and a pursuit was initiated along Stevenson Road.  The suspect vehicle struck a curb and lost control, coming to a stop on the roadway.  The officer removed the suspect from the driver’s seat and a physical struggle ensued.  The suspect resisted arrest and fled on foot.  He was located hiding in bushes a short distance away and was arrested by assisting officers.  A search of the suspect vehicle revealed a large bag of cannabis, a firearm, ammunition, and stolen licence plates.

Savon BLAKE, age 26 from North York has been charged with numerous offences including: Assault with Intent to Resist, Possess Loaded Restricted/Prohibited Firearm, Occupy Motor Vehicle with Firearm, Driving While Under Suspension, Possess Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000, Stunt Driving, and Drive Vehicle with Cannabis Readily Available.

He was held for a bail hearing.
