Male Arrested for Vehicle Theft in Oshawa

A male has been arrested for vehicle theft following a pursuit in Oshawa.

On Monday, December 11, 2023, at approximately 1:10 a.m., members of Central West Division responded to a stolen vehicle in progress call in the area of Simcoe Street North and Windfields Farm Drive West in Oshawa.  A white Jeep Wrangler was reported being stolen, while a dark-coloured Audi was standing by.  Both vehicles fled the area at a high rate of speed.  Officers located both vehicles fleeing toward Highway 407.  Police cruisers blocked the Audi from driving further, and the driver was taken into custody without incident.  The Jeep was observed entering westbound Highway 407.  A pursuit of the Jeep was initiated; however, it was discontinued in the interest of public safety.  The Jeep was GPS tracked to an area in Scarborough where it was recovered unoccupied. 

Weiqi YUAN, age 23 from Pickering is charged with numerous offences including: Theft of Motor Vehicle x1, Possession of Automobile Master Key x5, Possession of Break-in Instruments x1, and Possession of Forged Documents x3. 

He was released on an Undertaking.
