Male Suspected of Impaired Driving Facing Multiple Charges after Fleeing Police

A male from Quebec is facing multiple charges after evading police and attempting to strike officers with his vehicle.

On Sunday, December 17, 2023 at approximately 1:45 a.m., members from the DRPS Tactical Support Unit observed a vehicle driving southbound in the northbound lanes on Simcoe Street in Oshawa.  The suspect vehicle attempted to hit the tactical vehicles before entering the westbound lanes of Highway 407 at a high rate of speed.  Officers followed the vehicle onto the highway after it failed to stop for police and at one point making intentional contact with police vehicles in a clear and deliberate attempt to evade law enforcement.

The vehicle continued to flee officers when it pulled into a gas station.  Officers, who were outside their vehicles, attempted to get the driver to stop, when it accelerated in an attempt to run over the officers while continuing to flee. The vehicle was eventually stopped on the 407 highway westbound lanes just west of Markham Road where the male was taken into custody.

Members from the Ride team were also present as it was believed the male was also driving impaired, however he refused to provide a breath sample.
