Two People in Critical Condition after Fire in Ajax

A male and a female are in hospital after an overnight fire in Ajax.

On Friday, January 19, 2024, at approximately 4:15 a.m., members from West Division attended a residential address on Dooley Crescent in Ajax for reports of a fire.  Officers arrived on scene and observed heavy smoke coming from the front of the home. They went to the rear of the home, which was filled with flames and heavy smoke.

A female was yelling from the second storey window and holding a child.  The officer yelled for the female to drop the child to him, which she did and he was able to carry the child away to safety.  The female then jumped from the second storey causing significant injuries.  She was rushed a Toronto-area trauma centre and is currently in stable condition. The child sustained minor injuries

At the same time, a male occupant was located at the front of the home without vital signs.  Firefighters, who were also present on scene began life-saving measures.  Officers then took over CPR efforts as firefighters concentrated on putting out the fire.  Paramedics arrived on scene and transported the male to hospital where he remains in life-threatening condition.

The Ontario Fire Marshal office has been called in, however at this time the fire does not appear suspicious.
