UPDATE #1 Attempted Carjacking in Ajax

Police have arrested and charged two individuals in relation to an attempted carjacking that occurred in Ajax.

On Friday, February 9, 2024 at approximately 2:20 a.m., members of West Division responded to the Petro Canada on Dundas Street West at Lake Ridge Road in Ajax for an attempted carjacking. The victim was walking to his vehicle when he was approached by one of the suspects who asked the victim for his keys. The male victim was pushed down to the ground. The suspects fled as they were unable to steal the white BMW electric vehicle.

After a thorough investigation, it was discovered that the vehicle the suspects used to flee the scene was reported stolen from Durham Region. However, further inquiry revealed that the vehicle actually belonged to a family member of the suspect, and the report was falsely filed.

On Tuesday February 27, 2024 members of the Provincial Carjacking Task Force executed a warrant in the area of Wicks Drive and Kingston Rd in Ajax where two individuals were taken into custody without incident.

Ahmad MUQIM, age 18 from Ajax is charged with Robbery, Disguise with Intent and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime x2.

Tehmina MUQIM, age 33 from Ajax is charged with Obstruct Peace Officer and Public Mischief – False Reporting.

As a result of the rising incidents of violence related to auto crimes across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), local police services have combined resources and established a Provincial Carjacking Joint Task Force (PCJTF) to further co-ordinate law enforcement efforts in combating these crimes.

This collaborative approach aims to disrupt the networks responsible for violent and high-risk auto thefts and maximize enforcement efforts against criminal organizations.

Co-led by the Toronto Police Service and the Ontario Provincial Police, the task force is a collaboration between police services from across the GTA, including York Regional Police, Halton Regional Police Service, Durham Regional Police Service, Peel Regional Police, and other external agencies, including Criminal Intelligence Service of Ontario.
