UPDATE #2 – Disturbance Call Turns into Homicide

The suspect of a homicide investigation from 2010 has been arrested after returning to Canada.

On Wednesday, January 31, 2024, DRPS Investigators were contacted by members of the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and the Peel Regional Police regarding a male wanted for the 2010 murder of Derrick BROOKS, who was 32-years-old at the time of his death.  The suspect was taken into custody after flying into Pearson Airport from South America.  DRPS officers attended Pearson Airport and transported the suspect back to Durham Region.

Santos POCASANGRE, age 36 of No Fixed Address is charged with: Second Degree Murder, and Robbery.

He was held for a bail hearing.

SUBJECT: Disturbance Call Turns into Homicide 

 

On Friday June 25, 2010 at approximately 5 a.m. officers from Central East Division responded to an apartment on Ritson Road North in Oshawa regarding a disturbance.

Two males were found with serious injuries and rushed to hospital. One male, 32 years of age, from Oshawa is deceased. The second male victim, a 32-year-old resident of Peterborough, is being treated for serious injuries and remains in a Toronto area hospital. The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Officers set up a perimeter in the area and searched for a suspect, but no arrests have been made. The DRPS Homicide Unit has been called to the scene and the investigation is ongoing. Investigators do not believe this is a random act.
